N.Z. BOWLING ASSOCIATION.

THE ANNUAL TOURNAMENT. New Zealand Bowling Association tournament was commenced on Monday under favourable weather conditions, but duringthe latter part of the afternoon a light rain set in, which materially altered the strength of the greens, and somewhat puzzled many of tho players. On the hill greens the rain, was much heavier, and destroyed their keenness and caused considerable discomfort to those engaged in the tournament. The Canterbury men. accustomed to a different climate, probably found the heavy greens more embarrassing than most of the other players, and the sudden change was sufficient to account for much of the erratic play sometimes observed. Pretty well all of the greens played well, with perhaps tho exception of St. Kilda, which was a trifle lumpy for tournament play. A fairly early start was made with the Championship Rink Match, which was played under the usual conditions. Nilne greens - were in active use the whole of the clay, and play was all over by 7 o’clock. Mr A. Black, of the firm of Cossons and Black, very kindly placed his motor car at the disposal of the president of the association (Mr J. M. Gallaway), the Mayor (Mr J. 11. Walker), and the secretary (Mr H. F. M. Mercer), and by this means they were enabled to visit the whole of the greens during the day. The following are the aggregate results of the day's play, only the scores- in the first round being given,: CHAMPIONSHIP RINK TOURNAMENTS. First prize, trophies of tho value of £4 each and certificates suitably inscribed with the names of winners engrossed thereon —one for each member of tho winning- rink and one for the club; second prize, trophies of the value of £3 each and certificates suitably framed, with the names of the winners engrossed thereon; third prize, four trophies of tho value of f!P. and one framed
