BOWLING.

Secretaries are requested to forward participate cf games played and of forthcoming matches. The game of bowls is not only open to the old and) young of both sexes who are sound of limb; its -scope is oven wider. On the Wellington Green, at the opening of the bowling tournament, were noticed three players—good ones, too—who could not very well take part in any other outdoor sport. One was minus a leg, and had to use a rubber-clubbed crutch to pace the green with. Another was observed with a cork leg, and still another had a wooden stump protected with a rubber sole. It was cheering to see the keen pdeasur-e that these men took in the game, and the skill they were able to exercise in spite of their physical handicap. INTER-CENTRE MATCHES. Dunedin v. Southland. A match between -eight rinks from Southland a-r:d eight representing Dunedin Centre Avas played on Ivaiiuna. ail'd Caledonian Greens on Saturday afternoon. It was hotly contested, and in only throe cases were the wins recorded by either side secured by more than a few points. Leavmig one game that between’ Wnilac-o and K-eaet—out of count, the -result of the other seven gave a small margin in favour of Dunedin. But Wallace’s victory over Ke-ast was so thorough and decisive that Southland was given a clear gain of 25 and, of course, won the match. 1-ms resuit was peculiarly interesting, insomuch as Keast, the rdaver who skipped the winning rink at Christchurch last vear was one in whom Dunedin had much conlicence; wmle Wallace, widely known as a lead, has not had so much c ■pcv.ciice as £i skip. Tlic following’ arc the scores; Caledonian Ground.
