TWE NTY THREE YEARS' TRUSTEESHIP.

MR J. N. BROWN’S RETIREMENT. At the meeting of the Hospital Trustees on Monday the following letter was read ! from Mr J. N. Brown, which speaks tor ! itself “I herewith tender my resignation as a trustee of the Dunedin Hospital, with which institution .1 have been associated for a period of 23 years. During all that time my relationship with the trustees, hon. medical staff, secretaries, and all those connected with the Hospital has been ot a. very cordial, happy, and most satisfactory character. It is pleasant for me, after such a long association with the trustees and other officers of the institution, to be able to testify to the valuable and indefatigable services rendered willingly and joyfully at all times by the above, who are engaged in the noble, humanitarian” work of alleviating 1 the suffering's of the sick in our midst. I During the term of my office all the obsoI lete buildings have been demolished and now and up-to-date wards, operating i theatres, outdoor patients’ department, and 1 other buildings have been erected in their j stead, which are a. credit to our city'. X still further desire to place upon record my j high appreciation of the courtesy, general I business acumen, and tactfulness of our j present chairman (Mr Saul Solomon), whose gentlemanly bearing ard behaviour have i won for him the admiration and esteem of i his co trustees and all connected with the j institution. I am confident that the spirit of progress manifested hitherto will continue. - I therefore wish you, your coti us tees, rhe medical staff, secretary, and all engaged in the laudable work of the j Hospital groat prosperity and all good in I the coming year —Yours faithfully, i The resignation was received with regret, j It was decided to record on the minutes the long and valuable service rendered by r Mr Brown to the Hospital. I Dr Batchelor said Mr Brown had always ! been foremost in all matters appertaining ! to improvements. It was resolved—“ That Mr Brown and I the Hon. Thomas Mackenzie be appointed ! life contributors.”
