SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.

The monthly meeting of the School Commissioners was held yesterday; present : Messrs Wm. Dallas (chairman), Thcs. MaeGibbon, E. 11. Wilmot, and J. A. llanan. M.P. An apology for absence Was read from Mr D. Borrie. A letter was read,from Mr Jas._ Beattie, late lessee of section. 61, block XVI town of Gore, agreeing.-to accept £4 for fencing, and stating tha/: he. will remove 11 chains of fencing not required.—Received. The Under Secretary of Lands wrote stating that, the draft clause which the commissioners sent on October 22 last dealing with expiring leases will be inserted in the Reserves Disposal Bill nowbeing prepared .. for the coming session.— Received; Minister to be thanked. Ann Bain wrote' accepting the combi isfiionors’ offer of a yearly lease of section 14, block XXV, Invercargill, at £2 per annum, and thanking them for same.— Received.

R. Smith wrote to accent the commissioners’ offer of a year's lease of sections 16 to 20 of block XV, Invercargill Hundred. —Received. ■ The Secretary reported that no reply had been received from Mrs H. Cooper to the commissioners’ offer to accept surrender of lease of sections 3 to 6 of 25, block XV, Invercargill Hundred. —Consideration deferred. Clerk to the Bruce County Council wrote stating that the ~matter in dispute between the council and Mrs M'Lennan, -lessee of section 2 of 20, block IT, Maungatua, has been held over for consideration at next meeting. —Received. The Wallace County Council wrote ask ing for consent to the opening of a road for railway crossing in connection through section 27, block VI, Jacobs River Huntired.—Consent to be forwarded as applied ’for. C. Gilchrist, lessee of section 25, block IV, Otautau, wrote stating that he wishes tq renew the lease.—Commissioners have mb power to renew lease. H. R. and IV. D. Crossan, lessees of Section 3, block XII. Wendon, wrote asking for permission to erect a five-roomed bouse at a cost of £250, and also for 13 chains of drain tiles. —Permission granted. E. R. Bowler wrote applying for consent to Transfer of lease of section 16, ■block VIII, Wendon. from Wm. Barron to Donald*' H. Gunn. —Agreed to. Andrew Stevens, lessee of section 15, block VI. Winton Hundred. K applied for .fednotion, of rent on account of the cost clearing. Canadian thistles, and loss of land by ' river ' abrasion. —To bo informed shat the commissioners caiVnofc soc their ■w ay to make the reduction owing to Vioxious weeds, but will obtain report as -V) damage from the river. T. W. Ongley wrote applying for consent to transfer of lease of sections 34 and' \js, block VII. Otenopo, from Miss C. G. Andrews to Harvey.—-Acreed to. Thois. Ambrcvfo wrote Havng that

daughter, Miss J. Ambrose, would have to surrender the lease of section 7, block XX, town of Gore, unless the commissioners can see their way to reduce the rent. —Commissioners cannot see their way to make reduction. The Secretary reported the following apportionments of rents for quarter ending December 31, 1909 : —Otago Education Board, £4663 12s; Southland Education Board, £1935 8s; Otago Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools, £2ll 15s 4-d; Southland Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools. £135 18s bcl; Waitaki Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools, £lO6 19s 3d; Gore Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools, £36 8s lOd; —received, £7091 2s Id. A number of transfers were consented to. The ranger's report and diary were received and adopted. Accounts amounting to £125 12s 6d were passed for payment.
