HOMING NOTES.

By Mausta Mealy. The Dunedin Horning Pigeon Club flew off an interval race trom Gore, an airline distance of 77 miles, last Saturday. Mr A. C. Pigeon kindly liberated the birds at intervals of five minutes. The race resulted as follows, —J. Riack’s Mo ns. Blcriot (time, Ihr 28gmin; velocity, 149&yds 2ft), 1; T. Veitch’s Perfection (time, Ihr SOginin; velocity, 1486yds Ifb 2in), 2; A. Hunt’s Bonami Duke (time. Ihr 302 min; velocity, 1475yds 2ft 4in), 3; R. Umber’s Motor (time, Ihr 33amin; velocity, 1462yds 2ft 6in), 4; W. Niven’s Dominion Lass (time, Ihr 335 min; velocity, 1458yds 2ft sin), 5. Next Saturday’s race will be flown from Winton. Mr Fred. Moore has kindly consented to Liberate the birds. Mr J. Ria-ck was warmly congratulated on his first win. lie is a new member, and has done very well for his first season. The winner is a nice compact bird, beautifully bred. Hi® sire, Mons. Moi, is by Moms. Gran, ex Ap-res Moi. His dam was bred by Mark Holmes from Str-atb-avon, ox Shirley. This cross has been very successful in the races —viz., Mons. Gerard, Grannie, ex Scotties. Mr Finnegan received the following , letter from' Mi H. Stowell, the secretary i of the Auckland Flying Club:—“The Dun- 1 edin birds arrived here late on Thursday | night, per Monowai. They arrived in splendid condition, and I had them transferred to my home. I gave them a light feed and some fresh water, and made things as comfortable as I could. Satur- j day morning was lovely—clear sky and 1 j very calm. I liberated- the birds as tho Library chimes struck 5T The start was a beautiful one. The whole dozen rose very high in the air, and after making a couple of large circle® took straight off , to the south in a body. I sincerely hope the race will turn out a good one. During the morning a north-east breeze, sprang up, and increased until it was fairly strong towards the evening. You might let mo know the result of the race, also the airline distance you make it from Auckland to Dunedin.”' Up to the present no pigeons have arrived at Dunedin. The air-line distance is 706 mike. Mr Gerard, of Christchurch, has forwarded the following letter fop insertion: “ I have a blue chequered pigeon here which was caught a few days ago. This bird has been shot, and is unable to flv. The ring on its leg is No. 79 —19EC3. Please advise what to do with it.”—A. Duncan, Government Motor -Service, Culverden.
