CRETAN AFFAIRS
LONDON, January 13. A Turkish note to the Powers complains that the Cretan authorities had taken an oath of allegiance to the King of Greece, and that the Cretan Chamber had decided to apply the Hellenic law to the island. The note characterises these acts as rank insubordination. Great Britain and Russia,„ in their reply, regret the .Cretans’ insensate policy. BERLIN, January 15. The Tageblatt states that owing to the Porte’s threat to occupy Thessaly in the event of the despatch of Cretain deputies to Athens the Powers have decided to act energetically to obtain the postponement of the Cretan elections.
