AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIPS CHRISTCHURCH, September 28.
At a conlereooe to-day between t&e representatives- of tbe Board of Governors of Lincoln AgricuP'nval College and the" committee of the Education Board matters of detail connected with the Education Board's proposal to establish two agricultural acholarehipa wtire difibwssed. It is hoped that the College Board will be able to see its way to assist the seh«n« financially. When the details are agreed upon between the College Board xnd the committee the matter will be finally decided by the .Education Board. September 29. A tentative report wm submitted to the Education Board to-day re the proposed agricultural scholarships »t Lincoln. College. The representatives of the \asimetttioned irabmifcted the following proposals: — (1) Students must be «ver 16 years of age, (2) students must pass a further entrance examination at Lincoln College, (3) the amount of the scholarships to be paid- on. demand to Lincoln College towards reducing the students' fee, the remaining portion df the fee to be paid by the student ; (4) all conditions ot entry to be the same as for olaer students, with the above exception; (5) st.idents must en*er the first year's course. Lincoln Gollejje agrees to furnieh reports to the Education Board at tie end of each term as to the progress of student*. It was recognised that the scholarships would require to-be held subject to the approval of the Lincoln College BoarOn and under their regulations; that 4h« duration of the scholarships should be three /ears, and that the winners of scholarships shoald spend, a year on the farm before attending the college — that is, if previous farm experience h:is been had. Of the £40 per annum required to maintain each scholarship, it was proposed by the directors that the board should find £25, and the college would authorise £15. The report was received, and discussion was postponed till details are finally settled. -
