THE DAVIS CUP.
WELLINGTON, September 29. Australia and New Zealand have nowcome to a deadlock over the' Davis Cup contest. There has been considerable correspondenos- between the two governing bodies since the resignation of New Zealand from the Australian Council. New Zealand gave way on several points, and there was every prospect of the breach being healed. - Australia, however, was not satisfied, and insisted that New Zealand must rejoin the Australasian Association. This New Zearand has declined to do. It is stated that unless some arrangement is come to within the next few* days the New Zealand Assoj ciation will 'probably tafoe steps to enforce I its claims. j SYDNEY, September 30. i The Lawn Tennis Association will on Friday consider a cablegram from tha American Association requesting that the Davis Cup match should be played a week earlier than ths dates suggested. This is accepted as a guarantee that an American team will visit Australia. October 1. ' The managers of • the Davis Cup contests have decided to suggest to the Americans November 13, 15, and 16 ac .the dates for the match.
