THE D.J.C. ACCEPTANCES

Next week will see the commencement of our local racing season, and after the winter respite a good muster of the public should find their way to Wingatui on Wednesday and Thursday. The acceptances, which were declared bust week, give pro mise of some fairly good fields being seen out, whilst there is a pleasing proportion of visiting horses included in the list. The only withdrawal from the Mosgiel Handicap is Outlander, who incurred a 101b penpity by his win at Geraldine, whilst the only one of note amongst the missing in the Electric Handicap is Lady Orizoin. Three other withdrawals from the latter race are St. Felix (who is an acceptor in tbe Taioma Handicap). Cute (who unfortunately contracted influenza a few days ago}, and Red Morn. From this it will be seen that the acceptances for both the principal events must be considered highly satisfactory The fields promise to be fairly large in tho minor handicaps, and the Dunedin Stakes has thirteen two-year-olds still engaged, and of these the St. Ambrose colt Odessa is the only one that has faced the barrier in a race. The field in the Mosgiel Handicap should provide a very interesting race, even if the pen should go through another horse or two still engaged. Prkn and Cymbiform are a brace of N.Z. Cup candidates, and both may be calculated to be in better racing condition than wh=sn they recently carried ■ilk. Then there is a trio of good performers in Oiyoi, Stratagem, and Paragon to help to make things interesting; whilst another remains to uphold the claims of the light-weight division. The sprinters in the Electric have all demonstrated the possession of speed; and, taken all round, the club's patrons are very likely to witness some interesting sport.
