TALK OF THE DAY.
By Sentinel.
WINGATUI NOTES. The rain which set in on Monday night did not seriously affect the Wingatui Xiceoouree, but still the tracks could do with all the fineVweather possible between now and the commeneeinent of our spring meeting. The alterations which have been carried out at "the xmrse during the winter are now in a completed state. The new stalls have all been painted and numbered, and a neat iron rail runs along the front in order to prevent iihe public from pressing too closely to the horses when the latfer are undergoing their " toilet " for racing. The grass planted on the made-up ground has -not vet come away, but altogether the inside. Enclosure presents a decidedly improved appearance, which cannot" fail bat to favourably impress visitors to t!he coarse next week. During the morning several horses were worked, but nothing of a sensational nature was accomplished, and the bulk of the work was of the good, useful order. Amongst those out were ApoUodoris, St. Felix, Feodor, Sacha, Mulbifoil, Pinul, Sombrero, Invincible, Windward, Lord Rosebery, Obsono, Lupulite, Soldiers' Chorus, Astrakhan. Mand Gomne, "Vid, Liza, Wansbeck. and one or two others. In the afternoon Gapon, Grafton Laddie, Erskine, Princess Ena, Firebell, Aeroplane,- and some youngsters were exercised, whilst several horses are trained on the Mosgiel course. The rain which has fallen will probably shut the plough gallop for a day or two, but some interesting work should be witnessed on Saturday morning.
