The Daily Clironicle argues that despite a shrinkage in. trad© to the extent of £102,000,000 compared with 1907, the country is through the worst of the depression, and is now more than holding its own. The Times doubts whetheT there will be any material expansion in 1909. The Westminster Gazette declares that last year's trade equals that of 1906, despite the depression, and that the industrial outlook is hopeful. The British imports for December increased £341,000, the exports declined £3,340,000, and the reimports increased £1,467,000 compared with the previous December.
