THE GOVERNMENT'S ACTION STRONGLY CONDEMNED.
INSURANCE COMPANIES PROTEST. (Feou Our Own Correspondent.)WELLINGTON, January 10. The insurance companies doing accident insurance business in New Zealand have united* in protesting against the decision; of the Government, and a telegram to thafc effect was forwarded to Sir Joseph Ward on Saturday. They state that if anyone is to bs indemnified it is the employers, and not a State Department, but if the Slate Insurance Department ig to be indemnified, then the other companies doing business in the Dominion should also be indemnified. Otherwise the whole of the business must go to the State Department, and the latter will have more risks than it can safely carry.
