GRAIN AND PRODUCE SALES.

I Messrs Donald Reid and Co. report: — ' We held our weekly auction sale of grain and produce at our stores on Monday. There was a good attendance of buyers, who competed well for all lines of produce in demand at present, with the result that except for a few lots of oata and inferior chaff our catalogue was cleared at satisfactory prices. Values ruled as under : — } Oats. — Few consignments are coming j forward, and the small stocks in stores do I not include- meny lines suitable for ship- ; pers' requirements. Consequently exporters have some difficulty _in filling orders now coming in, more particularly as holders are "not readily disposed to accept present quotations. The demand is almost entirely for A and B grade Gartons and sparrowbills. Other kinds move off slowly in small quantities in the local market. We quote :7-Prime milling, Is 8d; good to ■best feed. Is S^d to Is 7id ; inferior to medium, Is 4d to Is 6d per bushel, sacks extra. i Wheat. — Very little prime" milling wheat 'is now offering locally. Chaff. — The market i« almost bare oi prime heavy oaten sheaf, for which there is good inquiry. Other qualities are not ir favour and difficult to place at re ducod prices. We quote : — Prime oatei Bheaf, £3 2s 6d to £3 7s 6d; medium t< good, £2 15s to £3; light, inferior, and dis coloured, £2 to £2 10s per -ten (bag extra). Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows: — We held our fortnightly sale of hides on Thursday, when we submitted a catalogue comprising 565 hides to a very large gathering of buyers. Bidding was again very spirited throughout, and we cleared our total offering at prices which were on a par with those ruling at our previous sale. Calfskins, especially, were in good demand, and in this class we sold one line of 10 at 7£d and another of 55 at 7£d. There was a larg« attendance of buyers, and competition was very keep for all descriptions, but for medium and light-weights particularly so Prices, taken all round, showed an advance of id to id per lb. They easily topped the market securing Bfd and B£d for two lots. Outside' of *heir sale 7fd was the top price obtained. Cow : B&a-vv. 5d to 6d ; medium, 4jd to 51d: light, 4£d to sid; inferior and damaged ox and cow from 2d to 4id ; calfskins. 64<i to 7id for beet, and from s£d to 61d for medium, while damaged amd inferior description brought from Id to 43d 1 per lb. Messrs A. Moritzson and Co. report having held their usual fortnightly sale of hides yesterday. The market for medium and light hides showed a slight rise of from id to id' per lb. Calfskins were also 'in good demand. Top once was 7|d for a lode weighing 76db. They also realised from 6d to 7d for hides averaging from 601b to 701b.
