LONDON, December 1. Reuter reports that it is- understood that the South African Conference at Capetown is unanimously in favour of unification on the Canadian plan. PRETORIA, December 2. Eight thousand out of the 10,000 Indians in the Transvaal have registered. One thousand applications for registration were rejected, and the rest of the Indians will be prosecuted. December 3. A memorial to Commandant Scheepers and 1 his companions, who were shot as rebels during the Boer war, has been uiiveiled at Graaff Reinet. Ex-President Steyn sent a message declaring that if Commandant Scheepers had done anything conflicting with the laws he had only obeyed the instructions of his superiors, but, Mr Steyn added, " I am unaware that anything conflicting with the laws was done." - DURBAN, December 4. An important section of the South African Closer Union Convention desires a model Constitution as closely as possible on the lines of the British Constitution. The Natal ilercury, foreshadQwing the ending of the coolies' importation, declares that South Africa, whether federated or unified, will not permit it any longer, and recalls the Queensland example of dealing with the coloured (kanaka) question.
