TASMANIAN JUDICIARY
HOBART, December 7.
Mr Nicholls, Lsader of the Opposition, has been appointed third judge. The position was offered to Mr Dobson, the-Agent-general, but was refused.
Mr Nicholls was born at Ballarat in 1868, and is a son of Mr H. R. Nicholls, who has been editor of the Hobart Mercury since 1883. Mr Nicholls was called to the bar in 1892, and graduated as LL.B. in 1896. He was elected to the House of Assembly for Hobart in 1900, and for Central Hobart in 1903 and 1906. Be was Attorney-general and Minister of Education in the "Propsting Ministry in 1903-04-, and has been Leader o£ the Opposition for some time. , He is recognised as the leader of the democratic movement in Tasmania. Mr Nicholls was married in 1905.
