D A.A C. EVENING SPORTS MEETING

The Dunedm Amaetur Athletic Club held its first evening meeting on the Caledonian Ground on Friday. That the meeting* are as popular as ever was proved by the attendance, which was large and enthusiastic. The strong bresze was rather too assertive, and interfered with the broad-jumping considerably. The ground was well turfed, dry, and in good order generally. The entries wero very good, and nine competing for the Broad Jump, and 15 for the 75Yd3 Handicap must bo considered first rate foi an initial meeting. The limits were not large, piobably owing to the number of new men whose prowess has not yet been gauged being in the field. One of the essentials for the absolute su-cceas of these meetings is punctuality. Daylight is not everlasting, and it may be noted that, though the sport* were, supposed to commence at 7 o'clock, it was not till a quarter past that it was possible to m«ke a start. In the last lap Scott led from Moore by three to four yards, but after a keen struggle Moore just got up and beat him at the tape. The time was only fair, and lack of training was evident. The last lap was exciting, and a distinct improvement may be expected in a fortnight's time, ihe race, considering it was the first of the season, was -distinctly creditable. Bhoad Jump Handicap. R. F. Mitchell (2ft), 20ft 3Jin .. 1 F. M. Eeid (3ft), 19ft 4Mn .. .. 2 E. A. Shand (2ft 3in), 19/1 2ui ..3 Eight competed.
