INTERPRETATION ASKED, FOR. CHRISTCHURCH, November 27.
Before the Arbitration Court to-day the Canterbury Typographical A&sociation applied for an interpretation of an award, six printing and publishing firms being joined as parties. The employers had adopted the multiple 37 in calculating the output of brevier type. The union contended that the multiple should be 40. Mr P. Selig, for the employers, said the multiple had been settled by the award, and fixed by the number of *en quads :ast up in a line. When the question .arose both sides submitted a case in writing to the makers of the type, and a reply was received to the effect that the type in question was brevier, 'ihe only way to measure type was b\- tho number of en quads cast up in a line. When the opei'ators worked on piece-work well over 7500 ens would be produced in an hour. Decision on the point was reserved. '
