TAIERI FALLS SLUICING AND ELECTRIC POWER COMPANY

The second annual general meeting of -shareholders in the Taieri Falls Sluicing and Electric Power Transmission Company was held on the 271b ult. There were nine shareholders present, and Mr Thomas ' Glendin-ing (chairman of directors) proaided. The following annual report was presented:— "'Ln presenting the second annual Glance-sheet, your directors desire to say that since the last report they called for venders to supply the necessary fluming 2 ipes for the race, and accepted that of tlessrs A. and JT. Burt. These have all lv:-en made and N 6ent away from Dnnedin, 1-ut unfortunately Messrs Mason and Co., the contractor* for the carriage of timber a.nd the said pipes, were unable to finish the cartage of same from Outram to the claim bsfore the cold, wintry weather set in, consequently operations by our men had to be suspended for the lack of material. The contractors, however, have recently resumed carting the remainder of the plant, and they anticipate completing the contract within six weeks. Your •directors made it their business to visit the olaims in the Easter -holidays, and they are pleased to say that after their inspection they formed a very high opinion of the ground belonging to the company. Several gullies running down to the claims were pointed out ca having been worked, and from which very rich returns of gold •v. ore grot, but the flat was too wet to enable lhem to continue operations. The comj i.ny'« water pressure will easily overtome that difficulty, and a profitable future tiould result from the working of the r.aims. Our manager (Mr John Tyeon^ had at the intake completed a fine piece of work by stretching a double line of cable across the gully, to which he had laid his pipes. He hid thus given the water a straight run jnto the pipes. He had also ■ laid most of the pipes that had been delivered at the claim, as well as built up and flumed in a very substantial manner several gullies on the line of race, so that now little more is needed than tfie speedy delivery of the remainder of the timber and pipes "to complete the rlace and enable sluicing operations to commence.' The balance sheet showed a capital expenditure iov the year ending October 31 amounting to £505 5s 2d. The Chairman, in movinc? the adoption <■•[ the report and balamo sheet, stated that since the warm spring wca-ther had --t in the contractors had for the past t roe or four weeks been pushing on the i irting, and he hoped it would not be j'liig ere they had all the maierial on the ;_ round, so that the fixing up hy the men <:>uld be started and sluicing commenced. Mv Wills asked about the water lights and the Government's requirements for irrigation purposes. Explanations were given, and the report and balance sheet were adopted. The retiring directors, Messrs John Fleming and Richard Powley, were reelected, and Mr Herbert E. Wilson was reappointed auditor. i
