CLUTHA PRESBYTERY
I The Presbytery of Clutha met at ' Milton on the 9th, when there woro pre^sen't — tha. Rev. M r. Miller (Moderator). S. W. Currie, Dalryniple, Fraser. Hov%es, BWr, Chisholm. Orr,. Ponder,. Brown, and Williams (ministers), and Messrs M'Cs.w, M'Hattie, M'Skimmu'iig, Fleming, Bnrr. Sarjrincor, Fyfe, ' Forsythc, and Dunlop (elders). Apologies for-a.beence were received from? j the Rare. Spence-, Allen, and W. T. Curri*. I The Rev. R. R. M. Sutherland, of Kai- . korai, being present, it was agreed to asso* j ciate him with the Presbytery. 1 Mr Howes, on behalf cf the ■> cove.* j mission appointed to visit Tuepeka • West, . gave in a detailed report, and a motion J was carried expressing pleasure with the prospect of building a church at Tuapek* I Mouth, and commending the Assembly's echemes to Iho generosity of the people. Th© Rev. Mr Orr, on behalf of the com* mission appointed to visit Glenomaru, gava in a detailed report, and a- motion waa carried expressing satisfaction with 4h<* work of Mr Alex. M'Newr, the missionary. The Rev. Mr Chisholm reported ro. Ratenui, when the Presbytery expreeeed ita satisfaction with the. work being <!onc. — On tho motion of Mr Chisholm it waa aleo [ agreed that, the warm sympathy of the Presbytery bo extended .to Mr Kirk in Jus r-ecent sore bereavement. — The clerk laid* on the table a statement from the. convener of the Church Extension Committee re^jha heavy drain last year on this mission ' oit the central fund.— lt wae aprocd to appoint; a commiseion, consisting of Messrs W: T. • Currio (convener) and Brown", to visit Ratanui and report 1o next Presbytery. The Rev. Mr Fraeer moved— "That tft« Presbytery, through the Moderator, expresses its heartfelt sympathy with Mr a,nd Mrs Dunbar, of Dunedin, in tho death of their only aurviving son." — Seconded by Mr Dalrymple and agreed to. *. TJie Rev. Mj- Howes moved— " That th» Presbytery express its evrnpathy with the family of the late Mr Thomas Atfnow, oS Taieri Beach, in the death of their muchrespected father."-rSeconded by Mr Fraser and agToed to. , A conference was held on horn© mission work within the bounds of the Presbytery, when it wa3 agreed that tho different parishes remain as at present. The question of the erection of a cottagd manse at Beaumont wae "considered, when it was agreed to remit the- matter to tho Rev. Mr Allan and Mv M'Hattie for further inquiry, the committee to report to next 'Presbytery. • The following were elected &a representatives to the Assembly: — Ministers— The Revs. 8. W. Currie, Datrymple, Allan, Howes. Blair, Miller, and Ponder; tho Revs. Brown or Fraeer to take the place of any unable to attend,- * Elders — Messrs Gage, . M'Skimming,' * Fleming, Welle> M'Caw, Patprsoo, and "Dunlop; Messrs . Fjsaqer,, moved—" That the Presbytery proceed to the next bum-* ne3e."— Seconded by the , Rev. Mr Ponder arid agreed to. ... The Rev. Mr Chisholm laid on the table" plans for. a. new church at Po.una.wea. when it- was agreed' to appoint Mewre 8. W. Currie and Balrymple a committee to conaider the plans and tho proposed site, with Presbylsrial power to act.
