In a statement presented to the Harbour Board, covering the nine months till September 30, the total receipts are shown at £78,084, as against £68,088 for the corresponding period of 1907, thereby leaving an increase of £9996 for 1908 over 1907. The general account showed a credit balance of £31,449. The board intends spending upwaros of a £1,000,000 on wharves and reclamation work. A human skeleton was found at Adria, in the King Country. In close proximity was a eix-chambered revolver, four chambers loaded, also a pair of bushman's boots. Evidence points to the skeleton being that of a European, who had probably been dead 10 years. » The steamer Surrey, which arrived from London on the 10th inst, brought 173 immigrants, mostly well ta .dp, including 40 children. Several young boys, ranging in ages from eight to thirteen years, were befo^o Mr Kettle, S.M., in the Children's Court on the 19th on various charges of theft. Four boys, -who broke into the City Market on Sunday night, confessed 1 to stealing fruit and-robbing tills there. One of them was ordered to receivA six strokes of the birch, two others werd committed to an industrial school, and the fourth was discharged. Eight boys, who were convicted of stealing various small sums from a shop at Newmarket, were, also dealt with, the/ ringleaders being ordered to receive the rod. The others were discharged with a severe lecture.
