WAIKOUAITI.

August 22. — A public meeting of the Primitive Methodist Band of Hope was held on the 20th inst. The Rev. J. Featherston occupied t.bo chair, and, considering the cold and showery weather which prevailed, there was a good attendance. The programme, oonsisting of songs and recitations, although not lengthy, was a very good one, and all who contributed items acquitted themselves well. The directors of the Waikouaiti Dairy Factory Company met during the week and fixed a bonus for the past year amounting to ljd per pound of butler fat, and this will be paid to all the suppliers who have shares m the company. The price paid for butter fat throughout the season just closed was Is per pound, and this, with the bonus which is to bs added, makes a very satisfactory return to the suppliers. A euchre match between the athenasum subscribers and the members of the local branch of the Farmers' Union was played on Friday evening last in the Public Hall Seven tables were utilised, and 40 players took part in ths game, which elided . Amongst those present who took part in the game was Mr William Graham, a former manager of the Waikouaiti Dairy Factory, who has &pent the last few years in New South Wales. Mr Graliam's many Waikouaiti friends were glad to have a chat with him again and to see him looking so well. A return mutch will be played at tho athenaum on Wednesday, September 2. The annual school examination was held during the month, and the report of the examiners ■(Messrs Fitzgerald and Bossence) shows that the school has been managed very efficiently during "the year, and that the work done in tho echool was of very high educational value. The head master (Mr W. E. Bastings) and the staff of teachers are to be congratulated upon the successful (result of the year's work. The school year. however, does not now end until December, when the head mlaster's examinations are forwarded to Dunedin to tii-e- board's inspectors. The- school promotions take place in February throughout iha Dominion.
