DUNEDIN CENTRE N.Z.B.A

Tho annual meeting of the Dunedin Centre of the N.Z. Bowling Association was held in the Library of the Otago Daily Times Office on the 13th inst. Mr C. Fraser (chairman) presided. The annual report and balance aheefc were discussed briefly and adopted. Mr J. 0. Stephens said that what had struck him in connection with the reporb must also have struck them : that whereas there were a lot of people who had received thanks for services rendered to the centre, there was no reference to the man who had devoted so much time and attention to the affaire of th« centre and the> recent tournament — their chairman, Mr Fraser. Mr Fraser had regarded himself as simply one of the executive of the centre, and beyond being a member of that executive he took no credit to himself for the work he had done. However, the meeting was not going to lose the opportunity of showing its appreciation of the manner in which My Fraser had worked during the year. Mr Fraser had been subjected" to some criticism ; but the voluntary critio was always present, and it was safe to say that the man most ready to criticise was th© man least ready to do the work. They would be quite satisfied 1 if they might always have a chairman like Mr Fraser. Mr Fraser. unfortunately, had decided that his busy life would not allow him to again, give his services to tho centre, so this was the last opportunity they had of thanking him. He moved — " That the hearty thank's of the centro be presented to Mr Fraser for his work in connection with the centre and with \he tournament."

The motion wae seconded by Mr Han-cof-k, and carried b.y acclamation. The Chairman briefly acknowledged th# compliment paid him. At. the first meeting of the new centre, which followed, Mr J. J. Marlow was elected chairman for the ensuing term. The following additional office-beareaf

were elected :—V.iceK:hairman v, Mr R. H. Scott;. treasurer, Mr P. C. Corliss; .committee—Messrs J. Lindsay, J. O. Short, C. Keast, J. C. Stephens, J. H. Hancock, W. H. M Leod, and D. C. Cameron; auditors — Messrs A. W. Stables and W. Forrester. COTTNCH. DOMINATIONS. The following were nominated .jor jposifcions on the council: —President, Mr J. Brown (Cnristcmireh); Vice-president, Mr J. M. Gallaway; jcommittee—Messrs C. Eraser, W. Allen, W. Waddell, C. Aston, iW. Dall, and Gray (Milton); treasurer, Mr J. Rennie. , „ ' The Secretary of tlie N.Z.B.A. Council forwarded the minutes of ihe meeting held on July 15, and enclosed a .notice, of motion , anoved by. Mr W. Dall to the effect that "dead Heads" be abolished, except in the case of the jack being broken, and that a new rale be formed concerning jibe placing >>f the jaofc. —After some discussion Mr Short moved —" That the centre approve- of Mr Dall's motion." —The motion was lost. Mar Dunn said he had been instructed by the North-East Valley Club to move in the direction of Dunedin holding an annual Easter tournament. The Oamaru tourn«,- * •nient, was now so. large thai it could 'not be concluded by Monday night, and this pre1 vented a large number of bowlers-from making the trip. Sixty-four entries were received for -this tournament last year. It j*rouid *bave been much easier, ban-died -were there, say, 4$ entries, and those 'other 16 might' >very easily co-operate with the bowlergv remaining "-in- 'Dunedin to hojd a very." enjoyable tournament. The Chairman said it was -apparent that \ the .time had arrived. when both " Christy church and Dunedin ■ should seriously consider the question of holding • an- annual tournament. • * -Tie two towns, of course, should not hold their tournaments at the same time. - ' y Some discussion ensued, delegates being generally of the opinion that; it would not be wise to iaJlow the proposed Dunodin tournament to clash with any of the other tournaments now held annually. Mr Dunn's motion —" That the centre consider' the advisability of holding an annual tournament" —was carried. A desultory discussion took place on the championship rinks' scheme, which, the 5 Cneirman stated, had not been favourably received by the clubs. Delegates were of opinion that the scheme v should not be lost sigsht of, but should be remodelled on lines more likely to" meet with favour. —The . Chairman promised that the matter would again at an early date receive the consideration of the committee.
