FIRE BRIGADES' CONFERENCE.
MASTERTON, March 11. The Fire Brigades' Conference closed to«« day. Several claims for service medals, eta* were dealt with. Gold stars for 25 years' service were pre< sen ted to B. C Robbrns (Hawera), J. A* Hayman (Kaiapfci), A. Harkness (Invercar* gill), G. P. Holland {Eastown Railway). The election of officers , resulted as follows : — President, Foreman WBdish (Gisborne); vice-presidents. Secretary Bowes (Nelson) and Superintendent Lucas \Napier) ;] secretary J. G. Gilberd (Napier); treasurer* Captain Spriggens (Wanganui) ; auditor, J« W. Garner. Captain Hans en, retiring president, votS presented with an honorary members' cer» tificate for past services. The visiting delegates were entertained ali a banquet to-night by the local firemen; The Hon. J. Carroll was "present. The conference has granted Hydrantmart Church, of Masterton, a gold star for 25 years' service. An order for payment of a penny a yea? has been made by the Penzanee Countji Court judge against a poor man who was sued for £14 5s 6d arrears of rent.
