FIRST GRADE. Carisbrook A v. Grange.

This match was concluded on the North Ground on Saturday, when the home team scored a 3-point win. after a close and highly interesting finish, by 11 runs. The Grange, with four wickets down for 13, continued their innings, the two not-out batsmen (Roberts and C. Beal) facing the bowling of Fisher and Butler. Both batsmen played very carefully, and the score ■was taken to 30, when Roberts fell a vieto Rutherford. The retiring bateman *had contributed a very useful 11. Downes followed, and Beal was caught behind the wicket without further increase to the score. Ogg joined his captain, and 10, runs were added, when Downes was bowled by a beauty from Rutherford. W. Beal filled the cap, and the score was slowly taken to 5?, when Ogg was, bowled by Butler. Henderson followed, but Fisher very quicklyfound him wanting in defence. Davis came in, only to see Beal auocumb to the same bowler, and the innings closed for 57. With Carisbrook A requiring 62 rune to win, Watson *nd Fisher opened the innings, facing the bowlimr of Downes and JDhVit. Buns came quickly at first, but in

the second over from Downes Watson played one on. Adams followed, and 6 runs were added, when Adams mishit one into the hands of Chadwick. The Foster brothers were both smartly stumped by Beal, and Rutherford was bowled by Davis without any alteration to the score. With th*> score at 18 Fisher was beaten all the way by Davis, after quickly obtaining 13. The scoring board showe<l six -wickets for 18. Butler joined Bannerman, but was finely caught by Wright, in the slips, without scoring. Harraway and Johnston did not stay very long. Nine wickets for 33. The best stand of the innings was made when Martyn, the last batsman, joined Bannennan, who was batting- very well, but was missed early in his innings by Roberts. Martyn played carefully, while his partner made the runs. The score was taken to within 11 of the required amount, when Martyn foolishly ran himself out, and the innintrs closed for 51, Bannerman being not out with a well-compiled 16. The bowling of Downes was excellent. He had the majoiity of the Carisbrook batsmen in j trouble, and bowled seven successive i maidens. Downes was ably backed up by | Davi6, who bowled exceedingly well, j Messrs Jelly and West acted as umpires, and gave general satisfaction. The following are the scores: — Grange. The innings closed for 171, Corbett carrying his bat for 22, made by steady cricket. Carisbrook, in a minority of 100, started with Siedeberg- and Roberts. Both batsmen started scoring freely, Siedeberg in particular batting in beautiful style, hookingand pulling Corbett's off breaks repeatedly. After 56 runs were made Roberts was bowled by Cummings for 31, made principally by hard hitting. On Drumm joining Siedeberg 1 another good etand was made. When 80 appeared on the board Siedeberff was bowled by M'Farlane, having playea the ball on. His score of 48 included five boundaries. Drumm soon followed, being well caught by M'Farlane for a prettily made 16. Burt (18) and Thompson (12) were the only remaining batsmen who troubled the Albion bowlers, the innings closing for 152. Oummings (five wickets for 57) bowlea very well. Albion, with 53 runs 1 to get secure a 3-point win. and 55 minutes in which to get them, started with Williams and M'Farlane Austin clean bowled Williams in the second orer. $,

Cramond and Hiddlcston were also bowled ' by Austin without scoring-. On Drake joining M'Farlane a serviceable stand was made. The light now appeared to be very bad, and Austin was bowling a beautiful length. M'Farlane, who had been batting in splendid form, was bowled with an off break by Austin for 24, made in 33 minutes by real good cricket. The score now stood at five wickets for 39, with 14 runs to win and 12 minutes to do it in. However, the j good bowling and bad light proved too much for the remaining Albion batsmen, I who had lost eight wickets for 50 when the ' game finished. Albion thus won on the j first innings by 100 runs. Austin (five ' wickets for 20) bowled beautifully, varying his pace and getting- a nica swing in from the off. West also trundled well.
