ECHO OF THE BOER WAR.

CLAIM FOR PAT. WELLINGTON, March IK. An echo of the South African war was heard in the Supreme Court to-day. It is alleged that several officers and men who served in the war in 1901 had. never received full pay for that year, and there is a movement to petition Parliament on their behalf. In the meantime Leiutenant Charles Cribb, who served with Colonel Porter, and is now resident at Greymouth, has instituted proceedings against Colonel Porter in the Magistrate's Court at Greymouth, the claim being for pay during the months of November and December, 1901, amounting to £56 8s 6d, or, with interest at 8 per cent., £74 14s. ' A motion was brought before the Supreme Court this morning on behalf of Colonel Porter to remove the case to the Supreme Court. Counsel stated that intricate questions of law were involved, and it was contended that the commanding officer was not personally liable for the debt, which, if due, should be paid by the British Government. An order for the removal of the case from Greymouth to Wellington was made.
