NEW YEAR PICNIC.
i The DL F. he d their usual picnic near 3 tue Oamum Whaif on New Year's Day and , although it .vas not so largely attended as - on piewous occasions it was voted to be one > of tne best picnics the D.L.F have jet held > The weather was— as usual for D.L F. pic- !• mes — all that could be desired A few of , the most notable features weie L That oai "West Ccast comrades weie ac1 corded a heaity welcome liom all, and we 1 hope to have the pleasure of their company at some futuie picnics. But don't forget, ! chums, to bring the other half of the quar- ' tette — Paparoa and Scribbler. That whilst proceeding irom the railway station to the picnic ground about a dozen > girls enjoyed a few records from a grarno- ■ phone. That the members of the committee (those : who turned up) are indebted to D.O.D. for his untiring and valuable assistance towards ; the success of the picnic; also to Gramo- ; phone and Scribbler for a case of fruit. That Master Ahx has no time fox tarts. ' Why so, little comrade? That is was whispered that Harry will be ] "had up" for child -stealing yet. What . an awful charge against our old comrade! That a young lady declared that Texas Ji&ck puts his whole heait into his hand whilst shaking hands, and that his heart was muscu'ar and strong. That as the Tarawera was leaving- the sea rose considerably, owing to the tears that were wrung out of handkerchiefs especial y by two "lasaies" as the gramophone gave out the farewell record. That we should like to know "the long and the short of it." Can Guilia or Indiano Chief satisfy our curiosity? That our camera friend was well satisfied with the number of orders and amount of money collected for copies of the group, which we hope io see in the Witness shortly. That the four D.L F. who occupied corneT seats in the dress circle «t the Ca edonian concert on New Year's night seemed to be thoroughly enjoying it. That Tracy looks first-rate in kilts, and whilst playing in the pipe band on the stage received many sweet smiles from bis L.F. chums. That Rogue II travelled to the West Coast with Paparoa and Scribbler, taking with her the good wishes of all her comrades. That C.A. had some rare old fun ag the special train from Oamaru pulled up at W. station. Ha! ha! chum; "didn't you knew" there was a D.L.F. in that carriage ' ? That Giulia declares she is "dead off" long cycle rides after her ride to Oamaru last Saturday Quite right, comrade! — 35 miles under a scorching sun, over rough roads, against a strong wind (what an unlucky cyclist for hea-d winds) is enough to make anyone ill and put them "dead off" long rides. That we should like to know why the above-mentioned comrade did not answer the boy who said "Hallo, D.L.F. !" to her on the street on Saturday night. We think she did not see him, as it •is not her rule to pass a comrade without speaking, so hope the boy (was it Ned de Vine) will not be offended That Sid did not turn up at the picnic on New Year's Day, nor did he turn up first "in the cycle races in which he competed at the sports. Better luck next time, Sid! ( That there is going to be another picnic ' on Easter Monday, and we intend being there. Till then au revoir, as it's, time we "knocked off." N.O.C.
