The annual report of the Wellington Gas Company states that there ];is been a substantial increase in the consumption of gaa during the year. Six miles and a-'half of new mains have been laid, and the gas extended to Northland. Melrose, and Haitati. An area, of 14 botcb o* land has fc«r<m purchased at Miram&r as a Srite for new works. A tender has been accepted for the supply" and erection of a new gasholder. In order to provide necessary funds for works extension a special meeting of the shareholders will be called at tho earliest opportunity. Tho sum of £5270 has been spent out of revenue on repairs and maintenance. A dividend of 10a per share on tho fully paid-up shares, and a corresponding rate on the partly pa-id-up shares, was paid on August) 1, and a similar amount is looommonded for the past half-year. The profit and loss account for tho year ended 31st December last shows the following item/?: — Debit: To manufacture a-nd di&tnbution of gaa, Tepaus, and renewal of plant, management, interest, bad debts, and miscellaneous works, £10,000; interim dividend. £6228 10s; profit and loss! balance, £18,026 17s 3d;— total, £88.666 3s 3d.
