CANTERBURY.
At a special meeting- of the Kjiapoi ?Tooll6n Company on the 29th ult. it \ta
decided ,to increase the capital by the issue of 20,000 £1 preference shares. Intense heat was experienced at Christchurch on the 29th ult., and the thermometer reached 95.8 degrees. Samuel Bennett and William Morria were committed for sentence to the Supreme Court, having pleaded guilty to forging and uttering cheques. Bennett entered his employer's office, ~stole sonao blank cheques, and made use of them.
