W Rendall (inspector) '-pportad — North-East Valley ding. — Warren-? road had been re-foimecl. and ready to receno metal. The sides of the- road had be-en ploughed by Mr Warren. A commencement had been made in raising the embankment on the Waitati-Wakan road, which would improve the grade before metalling. The inspector requested an extension of time to next month in regard to tbe Government grant of £50 on Rossit-er's road, as lie had been unable to- put the work in hand. Blueskin Riding.— The Evansdale bridge had been repaired, and metal on the Heyward's Point road, fioni Dnver's to Steel's, had been raked in, water-tables cleaned out, and nieta-l blinded, but owing to continuous dry and windy weather the metal was becoming loose, and required more blinding on this road. Water-tables on the Port Chalmers and Blueskin roads had been cleaned < out, and metal blinded from White's June- ' tion to the junction of the Port and Purakanui roads. Some planking on Combs s bridge required renewing, and battens were needed on the bridge on the Waitati River Main road, as spaces between planks weTe getting too wide. Th« timber would cost about £3 10s. Gorse and broom were encroaching on Donald's road, which also required blinding. Merton Riding.— Three trucks of metal nad been sent to Seacliff Railway Station for the Warrington- Seacliff road. - The watertables from Warrington Station to the beach had been cleaned out and hollows filled in. This road would require a light coat of gravel before the winter. Pryde's road was being re-fonr>ed and made ready to receive metal. The Hummockside road had been repaired from Brondon Flat to near the june- . tion of station and Butcher's roads. The lower end of Russell's road would require re-forming before being metalled. Hawksbury Riding.— Planks and approaches to the Waikouaiti River bridge had been repaired, and the washout at fhe plantation biid°e filled in with stone, while depressions on the road had been made up with gravel. iJivereide gorse and Canadian thistles in the gravel reserve had been cut. Paterson'a road needed 40 yards of gravel, and gor&e and broom blocking the water tables should be removed. A culvert was required at Bethune's entrance, as the water was turned into the centre of the road. The roads of tbe county generally were in fair order. The Secretary to the Land Board wrote enclosing statements of " thirds" and " fourths" from September 2 to November 30, 1907, and requesmg that details regarding expenditure be supplied es early as convenient. — Received ; matter to be attended to. j Dr Rosa Collier, medical officer for district of Strath-Taieri, wrote calling attention i to the dangerous state of portion of the road > between Middlemarch and Moonlight. She trusted the council would lose no time in having the road repaired. — Received ; inspector to repair that part of the road bordering Taieri County. The Secretary of the Otago Benevolent Institution wrote enclosing the weekly returns of amounts granted for outdoor Telief. — Received. The Secretary of the Otago Hospital Board ■wrote asking if the council was willing to . undertake the supervision and isolation of any indigent person suffering from infectious disease that might occur in the district. — Received. Resolved — " While this council cannot agree tci undertake the supervision and isolation of «my persons suffering from infectious diseases that may occur in its 1 district, it ia prepared to give every assistance to the District Health Officer in attending to the cases." C. H. Overton, Henley, wrote offering to lease a small reserve on the bank of the Waikouaiti River for ftaxmilling purposes. — Received ; inspector to report to the next meeting on the advisability or otherwise. The Secretary of the Otago Benevolent Institution wrote requesting the council to appoint a delegate to attend the meeting to be held in the Town Hall Buildings at 3 j pm. cm Thursday, February 13, for the j election of trustees, fhe December election I having been informal. — Received ; the delegate already appointed (Cr Kilpatrick) to attend. FINANCE. Accounts amounting to JEI7I 9s 8d were passed for payment. TENDERS. The following tenders were accepted: — G. Kerr, for 130 yds of gravel, Station road, £17 17s 6d; G. Kerr, eight chains formation and cartage of 80yd» gravel for Tumai road, £39; A. Storey, for 146 yds of metal for Russell's road, £54 7s 6d; T. Hammond, 286 yds of rotten rock for Pullar's road, £57 4s; A. Storey, for 160 yds rotten Tock for Pullar'e road, £40; J. Wadsworth, for 100 yds of metal and four chains of walling for Lower Harbour road, £54 10s; W. J. Brook, for 50yds of metal for Pigeon Flat road, £13 15£ Fresh tenders to be called in the case of contracts 1, 3, and 5. GENERAL.. The Chairman regretted that advice obtained from the county solicitor nisade it appear inadvisable at the present time to amalgamate portion of the Maori Hill Borough .with the Waikouaiti County, and a motion to this effect was carried unanimously. It was decided to hold the ne« meeting of the council on February 25.
