ASSOCIATION OF SUGGESTIVE THERAPEUTICS.

I The Association of Suggestive Therapeutics, which was formed and registered in October last, held its first conference on December 30 and 31, at the residence of the president, Mr David Shaw, Christ- { church. Delegates were present from Dun1 edin, Wellington, Picton and Chrietchurch. The President welcomed the various members, and thanked them for the honour they had done him in electing him president of the association. The president then read his paper on " Suggestive Therapeutics." An interesting discussion followed. Mr Jamee Bradley (seoretary of the association, Wellington), went through the corI respondence received by him since the , formation of the association, and a letter ' was read from Mr J. W. Poynton, first j president of the association, tendering his ! resignation on account of lack of time to j attend to the necessary duties. A reeolu- • tion was passed accepting Mr Poynton's resignation with regret, and confirming the appointment of Mr D. Shaw to the vacant office, he having been nominated when Mr Poynton's resignation was first received. Mr F. Helps (Dunedin) proposed the following honorary members, who were all duly elected:— Messrs Donald Seid, M.P.,' T. K. Sidey, M.P., Wm. D. M'Curdie, . Eden Bowler, Slronaoh Paterson, Rutherford Paterson, B. A., and Win. B. Tavern er. The framing of rules of association occupied the time of the conference until 9.30 on Monday evening, when it edjourned. ■• The" conference resumed on the following morning. A telegram woe read by the president which had 1 been received from Rev. Harold Eneor, a. member of the Association, expressing regret at being unable to attend the conference. The discussion on rules of association then proceeded, and lasted until the afternoon ! session. ■ Mr F. Helps (Dunedin) gave an address op " Therapeutics in General," followed by an interesting discussion. On. the. motion j of Captain Kenny (Picton), seconded by Mr | S. J. Larking (Wellington) a hearty vote thanks was accorded Mr Helps. The following- officer* were elected for the ensuing- year: — President, Mr D. Shaw (Qhristchurch) ; vice-president, Mr F. Helps ! Bradley (Wellington) congratuI lated the association on the position attained already, also on -obtaining euch a I president, whose judgment could be ' thoroughly trusted, and whose knowledge 1 of the subject of therapeutics, coupled with I ■ his fearless fairness, would prove a source ; oi satisfaction to candidates aspiring to t the professional ranks. No one was more desirous of keeping the subject pure and ' scientific than Mr Shaw, and with such members as they had a* present, they would keep the dignity of the association clean

and worthy of the respect of the public of New Zealand. Mr Shaw, in reply, said he thought the association's success was assured. They, had only to keep their/ ranks, especially their .professional ranks, clean and their basic statement pure and, they wore bound to win. He pointed out the importance of suggestion, and the> great _ difference it would .make to hunjamty .- if this- sower were better understood. „He looked forward to the time when this association, although now email, would. I It was decided to hold the next annual ' meeting of the association in Christchurch.
