• AUCKLAND, January 13. I Madame Clara Butt, who arrived by test ! night's steamer from Sydney met with a remarkable reception at her opening concert to-night. The theatre was crammed almost to suffocation, and hundreds who sought admission to the half- j guinea and fiva-shilling seats were turned ; away. All the guinea scats being occu- [ pied. The doors were thrown open at 6 o'clock, and within half an hour -ill the I 1 accommodation was sold. A queue was ; ! formed that extended .right into Queen j * street. Enthusiastic cheers were given to ■ - Madame Butt and Mr Rumford, . the con- ' cert being a magnificent success.
