Prior to the departureof the Nimrod for Antarctica, Lieutenant Shackleton, _commander of , the British Antarctic expedition, intimated' that there was a. probability "that after landing the- shore party , the Nimrod would be detailed to do ma^netio survey work in the seas around this .Dominion and Australia, and that observers from New Zealand and the Commonwealth would accompany her on her- cruise. It is understood that the New Zealand observers will be either Dr C. C. Farr, oi Canterbury College, or Mr H, F. Skey, 8.5., of the magnetic observatory in this city.
