INSURRECTION IN BRAZIL
ATTEMPT TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT. LONDON, December 2. The Daily Mail's Rio Janeiro correspondent says that an attempt to overthrow the Government was made at Minas j Geraes. under the leadership of Magali (a I native of Rio Grande) and Edosul,. aided by British, Canadian,' and American filibusters. The attempt failed after a primitive skirmish in the State of Bahia, wherein Philip Davies, a retired British major, was killed. Lieutenant George Gordon was wounded, and all the party were captured. The sum of £100,000 was raised in London and New York, and the filibusters landed separately as traders.
