The parson met the "coon," and the ; "coon" bore on his shoulder a freehlykilled /possum. "Have you any religious feeling, ray friend?" asked the parson. "Sutinly. r> replied the darky. "I'se had religious bringm' up." "Then you ought to know that it is sinful to hunt on the Sabbath." "Mi6rtah preachah," returned the darky, his eyes rolling till the whites shone, "does you expect any man is gwine to tie himself to any religion that allows a 'possum to walk right across de road ahead of him all' git away free? No, sah. A religion dat don't bend a little when a fat 'possum heads you off couldn't be 'stablished round yere by all tbe preachers in de country."
