THE SCHOOL JOURNAL.
NAPIER, July 29. The School Journal came in for_ some strong criticism at the annual meeting of the Hawfce's Bay Teachers 1 Institute. It was stated that a promise nad been made by the Minister of Education that the journal should take the place of all books except those required for the teaching of reading and arithmetic. This ie had been found totally tmable to do, and the result was th*t teachers had been forced to fall back on the old series of books. Parents had naturally complained, but the teachers were helpless in the matter, as tine journal was found to cover nothing like a satisfactory course of instruction.
