GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKET. llessTs Donald Reid and Co. (Ltd.) r-eport . — We held our weekly auction sale of grain 1 acd produce st our storey on Monday. Our catalogue WB3 a small one. including feed oa-'.3, fowl wheat, pota+oes, and chaff. There was a good attendance of buyers, and under brisk competition the catalogue, with the exception of a few lots of medium chaff, was cleared at quotations. Price 3 luleti as under. — Oats. — Owing fr> the fact that weather conditions have bsen far from favourable for threshing, vcrv few new oa'.s have been coming forward. Good to best feed lines have more attention from shippers, but as the local market is almost bare, most consignments are going into consumption here at prices which show a slight improvement on late quotations. Prime milling lines have I more attention, and lots suitable 'or this ; trade are readily quitted foi direct consigni naent. Quotations Prime milling. Is lid to 1 Is Hid; good to best feed, Is 9Jd to Is lOJd ; I inferior to medium, Is 8d to Is 9d per bushel I (sacks extra-). I Wheat —Prime Tuscan is in most favour with millers, but all sorts in good condition have more attention, and aTe .saleable at slightly better prices. Fowl wheat, although in most cases rather beyond shippers' limits, has good s-ale locally. Quotations: Prime milling Tuscan, 3s lid to 3s 4d; other sorts, 3s 2id to 33 3Jd; medium to good, 8s Id to

3s 2cl ; whole fowl .wheat, 2s lid to 3s ; broken."*, and damaged, 2s 8d to 2s lCd per bushel (seeks extia). , " ' Potatoes. — The market continues -to be : moderately supplied. All sorts prima^-and-fiee from blight ar-e in stronger demand, -par- 1 ticular attention being paid to choice lines , of Up-to-dates suitable for seed. QuotationsBest white sorts, £9 15s ~to £10; specially, selected, £10 10s to £11; .best Derwenta,: £9^ 10s to £10; medium, £8 15s to £9 ss; inferior, £7 10s to £8 10s per ton (bags extra). Chaff. — Last week's wet weather reiarded cutting operations, and in consequsace the market was not heavily supplied. Tie demand is entirely confined to prime oaien sheaf, ]. other sorts being at present quite neglected.' Quotations: Prime eaten sheaf, £3 5s to £3 10s; choice old chaff, to £3 12s 6d; rnediian. to good, £3 to £3 ss; inferior, £2 5s to £3 15s per ton (bags extra). Straw. — The market is poorly supplied, and for both oaten and wheat-en there is good inquiry at improved .prices. Messrs Dalgety ar.d Co. (Limited) report: — "We held our weekly sale of grain and prcduc* at our stores on Monday, when we offered a small catalogue to a good attendance of buyers. Oats and potatoes were in good demand, and sold at an advance on late rates. Chaff, however, was dull of sale. Prices mling are as under: — Oats.— There is little doing in this market, at present. There is a good inquiry, but the late unfavourable weather is no doubt re- ~ sponsible for tho scarcity of new oats in -this market. Present stocks are ,bar«!y sufficient for the locr.l demand. Any milling or feed lines coming to harid are readily cleared, at the following rates :' — Prime milling. Is lOJd to Is ll£d; good to beat feed, Is 9Jd to Is lOJd; inferior and medium, I 3 8d to Is 9d per bushel (sacks extra). "Wheat. — Prime milling' quality *a -still in favour wiih buyers, and during the past -week - a lair quantity has changed hands, -and the ' market is, if anything, firmer. , Medhuri milling quality, however, has only a moderate sale. On account of the large proportion, of southern wheat being too soft for .milling; there is a. good dsal of, fowl wheat offering, ( and for small lots the local demand is good/ but for shipment cheaper rates are ruling at noithern porls. Quotations: PrJms milling 7 , 3s 2Jd to 3s 4d ; medium do, 3s Id to 3s 2d ; , best whole fowl wheat, 2s lid to 3s ; broken and damaged, 2s 8d to 2s 10c! per bushel, (sacks extra).
