THE CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, April 20.

There is a fair amount of business passing ! in wheat, growers apparently being more willing to sell on a basis of 3s at country stations, and at the same time there is a good disposition on the part of both millers and merchants to buy. Tuscan is mpst in demand, and there is also a good enquiry for pearl, •while Huntars are not so ready of sale. A few extra prime lots of Tuscan have bean paced at 3s OJd and 3s, but the general run of sales for this variety has been at 3s. .Arnocg3t the lines reported to have been sold were 3400 bushels of Tuscan at 3s, 3000 bushels, in parcels, as 3s, 1500 bushels, also in lots at 3s, 1800 bushels of pearl at 2s lid, ; 1000 bushels of Hunters at 2s 10d, and fowl i wheat at 2s 8d; all at country stations. ! There are very few oats offering, and prices have firmed about Id per burhei ail round. No transactions of any size are reported. All the best samples of malting barley have apparently changed hands, but there has been a fair turnover in medium quality at about Id per bushel tatter than was paid at the opening of season. i The first of the new season's cowgrass has i been purchased at Bd, and it is expected that j the crop will be short. ' Potatoes are firmer, and £9 is now being paid for good-conditioned samples. Onions are slightly easier.
