CRIMINAL SITTINGS.
IKVERCARGILL, September 3. At the Supreme Court on Saturday Edward Marrah, a single man, about 45 years of age, was charged with an offence with a girl 15£ years of age. The jury could not agree, and were discharged. A m-ew trial is to be taken on Monday. The evidence disclosed that the girl, who comes from the vicinity of Duuedin, had been wandering about Southland for weeks, cohabiting with men in huts. It is alleged that two young fellows took her to Marrah's house in town, and tli>+ she remained with him till the- police got wind of tho condition of things. In tho case of G. Smith v. W. M'Kenzie, claim for £300 for the seduction of plaintiff's daughter, the parties agreed, and a verdict was given for £25 and costs. The girl was only 14 years of age when seduced, and gave birth to a* child in February last.
