A RAILWAY DISASTER.

LONDON, September 1. Tib London-Cromer express was •wrecked at Witham, near Colchester. Ten persons were killed and 20 injured. September 2. Six women and four men were killed, and 50 injured. The metals show no fault. The train was approaching Witham at lull speed, when a carriage was derailed. The accident is believed to be due to the fracture of an axle on a sharp curve. The train suddenly parted, and four carriages forming the rear section mounted the station platform. One turned a somersault, and demolished the porters' room, killing a porter. The carriages were heaped as a result of the terrific impact. There were many miraculous escapes, including a party of 40 of Dr Barnardo's children.. A gasometer burst, firing an

overturned carriage in the front section, but thß sole occupant leaped out safely before the carriage was overturned.
