At the Wanganui Education Beard meeting on the 22nd, at the suggestion of Chief Inspector Gray, a committee was set up to go into the matter of appointing a competent expert in dairying and agriouiture, to give instructions in 'this'subject to teachers in the Wanganui education district, with a view- of tho same "being embraced in the ordinary school curriculum. The assistance of tha A. and P. Society and kindred organisations is to be enlisted. The salary suggested is £400 r.ei- annum*

The telegram from Nelson of August 8 on harbour matters was worded in such a manner as to convey a wrong impression. Mr Marohant's report did not condemn the dredge and plant designed by Mr Leslie Reynolds. The dredge is reported on as doing all the work for which is was designed —namely, removing Mid delivering within th° harbour the material within the proposed channel;- Mr Marchanfc merely expresses an opinion 'that it would have bean better--to have a sea-going dredge to deliver the ■ material outside the harbour. On this point -expert opinions, of course, differ, but the"'point is one in no tense relating to the insufficiency of the plant for its purpose.' "Mr Ma-rchant did not -ocommend " drastic' alterations" in Mr Reynold's scheme. On the , contrary, the effect of his report is to advise the board 1 to revert to Mr Beynolds's scheme from which the. board departed.
