WAIWERA.

August 26. — On Friday evening a very enjoyable social was held at the Mission Hall by a number of friends to- bid farewell to Donald Darick and his companion, and to present them with a Bible each as a slight recognition for their many good qualities and admirable companionship while among them. The two young men in question are undoubteclly capital examples of what young fellows should to:— -consistent, persevering, and mcdest. and they are bound to leave traces for good wherever their lot is cast. In parting they carry with them the good wishes of one and all. — Miss I>. Lothian, school teacher, having been promoted to a, higher school, has also left a blank not easily to be filled. She has proved herself to be a teacher of a high order, and leaves with praise, from all parents and children who had the good fortune to be ia any way connected with her. Being of -a rather retiring disposition, little is known of her beyond her duties, which she carried out most faithfully. Weather. — Since my last we have had another slight fall of snow, but the weather is again most beautiful — spring everywhere being visible, especially in the gardens, buds and flowers bursting out, in many cases in a very forward state. Agricultural. — Stock everywhere continues to do remarkably well. Messrs Fyfe and tha Roseveare Bros, a-ra amotng the- first I have heard of having some early lambs among their flocks, and these are doing remarkably well. The general lambing, however, will not take pace for a month at least. Good prices still continue for sheep, and large flocks 'are changing hands at the Clinton sales. As the season draws on we are beginning to speak of the coming shows, and in some places prepare in a measure exhibits, selecting the stock, etc., intended for show. I understand the M&ssrs; M'Phail will a^adn exhibit a number of their Ayrshire cattle; Mr Copeland probably a young colt; others, I hope, some sheep, etc. It is good to find some amosg us who have the pluck to face tb.9 show ring 1 . Should the weather continue fine, sowing will soon be general.
