DUNTROON.

August 28.— The weather dining the past Fortnight has been very changeable. Although ,we have had a lot of fine days, we nave had some very cold winds; but no snow has fallen, though, it is still very deep above the snow line. A good day's rain would be rer-y acceptable at present.

Farming.— The farmers are all busy now petting their lane? ready fctr oats,- or lats wheat. A few iarniers have their oats sown ; a*few early potatoes are already planted. The turnips are holding out well/ but the grass lias grown very little of late. We had more growth three weeks ago, but the cold southwesters have kept it back.

Sale. — A clearing sale was held on the late Mr Reid's farm at Kokoamo last Thursday. The bidding was very spirited from start to finish, every article selling well, with, the exception o£ tlie cattle. In sheep, 560 six and eight-tooth ewea, in lamb to Border-Leices-ter rams, were sold at 28s 9d; 50 of the same sheep already lambed, with 115 per cent, of Jambs, brought 28s; Border Leicester rams brought from 2gs to 4gs -each. The draught horses, which were a good lot, sold at from £45 to £60; hacks, from £12 10s to £33; the young colts sold -well. The cows were pdor, and, went for a little over £2 per head, except two newly-calved ones, which brought £5 auad £8, the latter being for a /oung 1 cow in healthy condition. The implements sold Vrell, in some cases lots reaching the value of hew ones. Concert. — The anmial concert in aid of the library was held in the Defence Hall on the 18th inst. The evening was wet, which caused ■a smaller attendance than usual. Mr E. IM'Bean was in the chair. The concert opened Ijy an overture by the Misses Aldred, which ■was very well rendered. Miss Aldred then bang "A May morning," followed by Mr Craig, "Out on the deep" ; Miss Falconer "RothBay bay" ; Miss Croft and Mr Johnston, duet {humorous), "No, sir"; Mr Holmes, "The cuckoo"; Duntroon Glee Parly, "Laughter" : jMiss E. Aldred, "Home, dear home"; Mr J. Meek, "LonSon. city"; Miss Cullen, "The gipsy girl"; Mis 3 Croft (tableau), "We'd better bide a'wee" ; Miss falconer. "Asthore ; Mr D. Craig, "True till death" ; Miss Aldred, "Summer showers" ; Mr Holmes, a whistling jsolo ; Miss Croft, "Alison mine" ; Duntrooii Glee Party, "Profundo basso" ; Miss Aldred, "The dear homeland"; Mr J. Meek, "The Misaus wants to talk" ; Miss Croft (tableau), "itobin. Gray." All the songs were encored,

the calls being duly responded to. Although the audience was comparatively small, those who did brave the weather had a good night's entertainment. A large number of tickets were sold, and the committee will have a nice little sum to get a few more books with. Some 120 new books wore added to the library last year, and it now contains over 1200 good, readable books. Anyone visiting Duntroon is oordially welcome to get a book or two. The library is open every Saturday, from 7 p.m. till 8 p.m. It is in one of the ante-rooms of the Defence Hall. The usual dane followed.
