OTAMA.

Augusit 19. — The annual bachelors' ball took place last month, and was a most enjoyable affair. The hall was filled with guests from far and near, and the hosts were most assiduous in their attention to their duties. During the evening Miss Eggleston sang "The Carnival," Mr M'Cutcheon, "Ring down the curtain," and Mr J. Pctoki performed the sword danoe in a very creditable manner. The music was supplied by Messrs Hunter and Mrs Renshaw, while the catering was of the best. Mr Renshaw, in a neat speecih, returned thanks to the bachelors, and "Auld lang syne" was sung to finish up with. Euchre Party. — The first of a. series of euchre parties was held in the hall on August 4. It watt given by the School Committee in aid of the organ fund, and the attendance was very satisfactory. The ladies' prize was tied between Mass Stewart and Miss Copland, and in tihe play off Miss Copland won. Mr Jas. Scott got the gentlemen's prize, Miss Clapp and Mr J. M'Leod coming in for the respective boobies. Euchre was played up till 11 o'clock, when tea, etc., were dispensed. Afterwards a few dances were indulged in, and were very enjoyable.

C.E. Social. — The Christian Endeavourers of Otama held a very successful social in the Church. Jttall on Friday night. Songs were contributed by Miss E. Dunn amd Messrs Stewart, Forbes, and Dunn, the Rev. Mr Paulin gave a recitation, and the rest of the evening was pleasantly spent in games. Tea and edibles were dispensed by the ladies of the society.

Agricultural. — The weather here lately has been very fine for winter, and farm work is well forward. There are still some turnips to be eaten off in this 1 district, and sheep are looking very fit. Some of the farmers have started sowing, and there is every indication of an early spring.
