Mr Goodman lias turned out winners galore-, ox &U sorts and conditions of races— leppers and sprinters, 'Selassie" performers, two-year-«ldsj and in iaixning <mt journey horses m eondrfion to ga their journey he. has few equals' unS aio superiors. The preparation of iWo-ve*r-oids and journey Tiorses are the two 'things which «o to prove a trainers capabilities. Two-year olds and' cup horses are scarcer Chan utility horses, but we have xegiments .©I trainers who can successfully ixandb iihe latter class, but many cases can be quoted where otherwise capable trainers "have failed to turn out cup, winners and successful two-year-olds, even when they had the material iv iihe stables. Mr Goodman lias been particularly successful with youngsters, and although never a wealthy xnan, wh.o -could buy a batch of youngsters and make some by breaking others, he managed to win the Welcome Stakes in three successive years with Apropos, Silvermark., and Somneil, besides capturing many other juvenile races with Day Dream, winuei -of the D.J.C. Champagne Stakes and- several other two-year-old races; First Lord, -winner of the Middle Park Plate; and -several otliers. Somneil was the only two-year-old capable of stretching Carbine's neck during the turf career of the worldfamous son of Musket in New Zealand. Somneil made a winning debut in the Broekenhurst Stakes, and followed that up by a win in the Welcome Stakes, a miss in the Juvenile Plate, won the D.J.C. All the latest books, by the best authorities, are in Goodman's possession; and he may be said to be an up-to-date man with a veteran's experience. He takes over a stable of good, healthylooking, andj with the -exception of the youngsters, ivh.o all look backward and, in one or two cases, light in condition, they arc fairly useful horses It is to be hoped that a reasonable amount of luck will attend bis efforts, ami the engagement prove of mutual satisfaction to owner and trainer.
