Country Sales.— The Otago Farmers' Cooperative Association of New Zealand (Limited) report:— We held one of the most successful clearing sales of dairy cattle and dairying plant that we have had for a long time,, on account of Mr Donald Gunn, of Hillside, Sandymount, on Tuesday, 23rd May, when there was an excellent gathering of farmers from all parts of the Otago Peninsula and buyers from the North-East Valley Taieri, and Purakanui, all of whom were in attendance on business, and made bidding very lively right through the auction * There were also a large number of warm friends or the old and much-respected Mr Donald Orunn, whose name is to be traced back as one of the earliest settlers on the Peninsula • and as a neighbour testimony was put forth on Tuesday last as to his good, qualities by almost every man present showing a disposition to acquire a cow or something else that belonged to their old neighbour; and it goes without saying that when a feeling of this sort was present prices boomed, and the result was a capital sale. The cows were in splendid condition, as were also the heifers and young cattle. A good few of the former were only a few days calved, and a number close to calving. These realised capital prices, running from £8 to £10 under keen competition. Cows calved two or three months brought £& to £1 10s: June, July, and September calvers, £5 to £6 10s; heifers, spring calyers good sorts), £i 10s to £5. Younl cattle sold welL Dairy utensils, etc., sold at good prices The sale right through was a most satisfactory one. Rabbitskins.-The usual sales were held on Monday, when fairly large catalogues were submitted. Competition was keen, and a clearance was made at prices which are very satisfactory, considering the season of the year. Quotations: Lately-caught winter grey, 15d to X6jd per 1b; autumn, lid to 13£ d; slimmer and spring, 7Jd to 9fd; small, 3 |d to 6id; best black and silver grey, 19d to 23d; medium, 19a to 17d. Sheepskins.— The demand for these continues good, and all offering at the weekly auctions sell readily. Competition was again very keen on Tuesday, when prices realised were .fully up to those ruling last week. Quotations: Best merinos sold at 7d to 7£d pe 1 " lb ; medium to good, 5d to 6£d ; best halfbreds, 7d to 7£d; medium to good, 5d to 6Jd ; best crossbred, 6|d to 7Jd; medium to good, 4£d to 6£d£ butchers' green crossbreds, 3s 6d to 5s 2d each; green lambskins, 3s 6d to 4s 8d each. Hides. — All coming forward meet with a ready sale. Stout heavy ox and light-weight ox and cow meet a particularly brisk sale. Fairly large catalogues were submitted on ' Thursday last by the various brokers, and clearances were effected at for extra prime stout ox, to 6Jd per lb; prime stout ox, 5d to s|d; medium to good, 4|d to 4|d; light, 4Jd to 4|d; prime cow, 4£d to 4|d; medium to good, 4|d to 4|d; light, 4Jd to 4|d; bulls, 2*d to- 3d per lb ; yearlings, 4s 9d to 7s 3d each ; calfskins, Is 6d to 3s 6d each. One or two millers holding light stocks are inquiring for prime sorts, and have little difficulty in supplying their reqiiirements, although moat growers are not disposed to sell at present Values. Medium quality is neglected. Fowl wheat, which is being offered on easy terms at northern ports, ia »l»o more plentiful locally, and only sale.
