OTAGO LAND BOARD.

The regular weekly meeting of the Otago JJand Board was held on Wednesday, there being present Mr D. Barron (Commissioner of Crown Lands), Messrs W. Dallas, Jno. Tough, mnd G. Livingstone. .William Hughes and M. Darling wrote with areference the- .application by E. and- J. " Jop~aon for part of reserve, block I, Blackstone district:— Application by E, and J. Jopson declined.

Thft board considered Ranger . O'Neill's report on section 33, block VII, Woodland dis--trict, and the application by George Leal fcr the Bection. — Application declined. .J. W. Gent, lessee of section 2, block V, "Hankleburn district, -wrote with reference to the damage done to his crops by deer. — The l>oard regretted it had no power to deal with the matter.

D. Finlayson, on behalf of James Toner and John Joseph Ryan, wrote asking that section SO, block XXXII, Town of Havelock, be surveyed into two portions and offered for sale. — to warden for report as to whether ■there was any objection from a mining point of view to tho disposal of these sections.

The forfeiture of the leases held by E. W. and E. J. Clunie over sections 2a and- 3a, Duncan settlement, having been approved, the "board was requested to again deal with the sections. — To be reopened as formerly.

The lessee of the coal reserve, sections 57 and 58, block 111, Moeraki district, wrote -objecting to the issue of a license to J. T. 2Jodgers to cut the flax on the said sections. — Application for a flax license declined.

Ranger O'Neill reported on the application Iby -Harold Eaton for a license to remove timber suitable for fencing purposes from sibout 30 acres in the Waipori bush, adjoining the land- held by the Corporation of Dunedin 3i3 sawmill areas. — Granted, in accordance -with the ranger's recommendation, over 20 acres; rent, £10 per annum for a term of two years.

- The board -was requested to declare lapsed the application made by Henry Robinson for section 56, block I 3I 3 Warepa district, the necessary fees not having been paid. — Application Seclared lapsed.

Clarke, lessee of sections 1, 2, 8, 9, 19, and 26, fclock VIII, Tautuku district, who had been -called upon to show cause why his lease over 4he said sections should not be forfeited for Jiig non-compliance with the improvement conditions. — It was resolved that Mr Clarke be acquired to comply -with the conditions of his lease -within two months and that the case lie adjourned for that time in order to enable aim to make some arrangements by which the milling timber can be utilised and the clearing a»d grassing carried on simultaneously. The will "be willing to assist him by assentfing to any reasonable arrangement to enable -iiim to carry out these conditions^ : Charles Inder made an application for -a license to occupy section 25, block 111, and nection 21, block VH, Maniototo district. — •Granted on a three years' license under clause Sl9 of the act; rent, £5 per annum. The board waß requested to fix the rentals for the following occupation leases: — F. Mackenzie, section 11, block XI, Leaning Rock district; rent, 8d per aore pre annum. J. W. Anderson applied for a license occupy section 1, block XV, town of Ranfurly. — Granted, subject to the usual gravel rights by the local body. Pilling Bros, wrote with reference to the rent paid_by them for their yearly license to occupy eight acres in block XIX, Tuapeka East district. — Rent to be Is per aero per annum. Tho board .was requested to consider the question of removing the reservation from section 1 of 44, and section 2 of 44, block 111, Waitahuna West district, ferry reserve. — Government to be recommended to remove the reservation from the reserve. Samuel Purvis applied for the right to erect a temporary smithy on section 41, part subdivision of section 1 of 44, block 111, Waitahuna West district. — Right granted to occupy any of the sections not temporarily reserved. Cutton and Hjorring, on behalf of Mrs Elizabeth Dyke, applied to have lease in perpetuity over section 18, block VII, Upper Taieri district, issued in the name of Walter Reginald Lowe. — Approved.
