DEEP STREAM.

May 18.—Rain has fallen' sparingly in the district during the last week, and is wanted badly, especially by miners, and now in th« mornings we are having a touch of Kin^ Frost, although as yet the frosts have not been very severe. With a blue sky, a hard frost, and no biting wind, what can a man want more at this time of the year? Change.—The Messrs Walsh, and their father before them, have been so long connected with the Stream that without them weshaJl hardly know what to do—at least for as. while; but they have decided to leave, and have already sold their place here and taken, a piace at Centre Bush, in Southland. Both the Messrs Walsh and their three sisters havebeen kindness itself to everyone residing in this neighbourhood, without regard to rank or station, and the loss to the district through; their removal is very great, but one and all here wish them prosperity and happiness in. their new home. Mr Charles Anderson, until recently in charge of Messrs Peat's run at Clarks, has, it is understood, bought Messrs Walsh 3 run. • Mining.—Water has been somewhat scarce for some time, biit with the recent rain this f as improved. Although a fairly dry season, the Deep Stream Amalgamated Company hao thia year been working all the time, and the company is getting good returns out of tha ground! being worked at present. The prospects for the future are much brighter than they have been for some time past.
