WATHEMO COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Waihemo County Council was held in Palmerston on Saturday; present — Ors J. Ross {chairman^, G-. Clark, D. Ross, T. Muir, R. Cameron, D. M. Philip, and W. E. Griffin.

The County Clerk, Levels County Council, forwarded a. copy of a. resolution passed by the council respecting the establishment by county councils and road boards of a. superannuation fund for the benefit of their ofS.oia.ls and employees. — On the motion of Cr Philip, seconded by Or Muir, it waa resolved to instruct the council's delegate at the County Councils' Conference, to be held in Wellington in the winter time, to sripport the scheme suggested.

P. IBrennan, dredgemaster of the Inehdale Gold Dredging Company, applied for permission to shift the present culvert supplying th* dredge with -water from the Shag River fco a> point 130 yards nearer the Tiver. He would make good any damage done to the road. — • Permission granted.

J. Munro, Shag Valley, drew attention to the state of the road leading to bis property, from the Main road, and pointed out that with very little rain the creek ran over the road, making it impossible to pass along on foot. — It was resolved not to do anything at present. The Secretary to the Otago Land Boaroi wrote that the board had approved of th© expenditure of the " fourths " accrued from section 3, block IV, Highlay, from August, 1897, to October, 1902 The amount had been paid into the bank for the credit o* *h<» ~r-ii»infi __ Received.

The Inspector reported that ne naci «-x«un.iiie.u. the crossing at Muddy Creek, Bushy Riding, and found that a bridge was required 75ft long by 18ft wide. The cost would be about £150. There were many places in the county that were unfit for any extra, motor traffic-. The turns were sharp and narrow. There waa v. very bad turn near Mr James Guithrie'a house, and another just past Mt Goodley'a store. There were many parts of the roads in th© county that would have to be improved! to protect motorists and all sorts of horso traffic. He would take every chance to -widera the turns, but the motor traffio was coming; faster than the county's revenue would do the work. It was for the council to devise » scheme to meet the traffic. The roads wera being ptepared for winter traffic. Th-e traffic frons Mount Royal had been excessive, the carting of gravel going on, wet and dry, with four horses. The contractors were progressing witlx the works in hand, and he expected that they would all be finished by next meeting. The* roads would then be greatly improved. In the Dunback Riding the roads were in fab? order.— The report was adopted.

The Finance Committee recommended thatf accounts amounting to £323 17s 7d be passed? for payment. — Agreed to.

Mr J". Kitchener's tender of £2-2 103 for gravelling the road leading to the Goodwood! Village Settlement -was accepted. It was deckled to obtained some poisoned oats and wheat for experimental purposes.
