The Theory of the Move.— We shall, if possible, begin next week the republication of Mr James Mulvey's valuable articles on "The Move and Its Vagaries," which appeared in this column two years ago. Not in any publication, nor in all taken together, can readers find such a, rlea.r and comprehensive treatment of *the vagaries" of the move as is contained in Mr Mulvey's articles. We have had quite a number of applications for copies of the articles, but, being unable to supply them, will give everyone who desires it an opportunity of obtaining the- articles conrpleite.

. J. George's Problem. — The beautiful problem "by Mr J. Greorere, of Cardiff, England-, which, appeared in this column recently from the Liverpool Mercury, is "ff©rng the rounds" of the drau-etits columns, and' everywhere receiving •unstinted- praise. The Pittsburg Dispatch describes it as "a brilliant pern," and "the most eteoe-pfcive little joker we have seen in a long tinie^ and should, easily take rank as t3ie finest production of the year 1904." But even the finest gtms ax« not left undisturbed. A good lady — a Mrs J. Anders, of Ashton-in -Makerfield has sent to London Opinion a very tliinlydisguised imitation of Mr George's problem, where it appeared as No. 70. For comparison ■wo give the -problems together : Mercury problem (by Mr George)— Blac k: 2, 10, 28, king 27. "White: 8, 23. 24. kings 3, 12. White to ■win. London Opinion problem No. 70 ("by" Mrs J. Anders)— Black : 2, 10, kings 27, 29, 31. White: 8, 23/24, kings 3. 12. White to win. The solutions are identical. 37. 2 11, 12 16, 11 20, S3. 27 18. 3 7. 20 27. 7 32. White wins.
