Sheepskins. — The usual fortnightly sales at the Agricultural Hall were well attended on Tuesday, when fairly large catalogues were submitted. Bidding was very spirited throughout, and prices were, if anything, better than those obtaining a fortnight ago. Quotations : Best merino sold at 7d to 7|d ; medium to good, 5d to 62d: best halfbred, 7d to 7|d; medium to good, 5d to 6£d; best crossbred, 6Jd to 7£d; medium to good, 4*d to s£d per ib; butchers' pelts, 3s lo Ss 7d ; do lambskins, 3s to 3s 9d each.

Hides. — Fair catalogues were submitted on Thursday last, comprising the usual assortment of hides. There was the usual attendance of buyers, but competition was hardly so keen as at last sale, and prices for most descriptions were slightly easier.- Qxiotations: Extra heavy ox, 6Jd to 6Jd ; heavy, Sjd to 6d ; medium. 4£d to Sid ; light, 4Jd to 4£d ; best heaw cow, 4|d to 4£d ; medium to good, 4-Jd to 4|d ; light, 4d to 4Jd ; bulla, 2d to 3Jd per lb ; yearlings, 2s 9d to 6s 9d ; calfskins, Is to 2s 9d each.

Tallow and Fat. — All coming forward is taken up. mostly for local consumption. Quotations : Best rendered, 18s to 20s ; medium to good; 14s 6d to 17s 6d ; best, fat, 14s 6d to 16s; mixed, 12s to 14s per cwt.

Grain. — Oats: During the past week the demand from shippers ha-s absorbed most of the feed oats offering locally, and as only a moderate quantity is coming forward prices to-day are firm at late values, while for special lines slightly better prices are obtainable. Quotations : Prime milling, Is B£d to Is 9d ; good to best feed, Is 7d to Is 8d; medium, Is 4d to Is 6d per bushel (sacks extra). — Wheat: New season's grain is now offering more plentifully. Millers are not disposed to operate largely at the opening rates of the season, and as many owners are anxious to quite for immediate delivery it is difficult to find sale at late values for all lots coming forward. Prime Tuscan is in most demand locally. Prime milling sells at 3s 4d to 3s 6d; medium to good, 3s Id to 3s 3d ; whole fowl wheat. 2s lOd to 3s ; broken and damaged, 2s 6d to 2s 9d per bushel (sacks extra). — Barley: Lines of new season's malting barley are now coming forward. Prime well-threshed lots are readily taken at an advance on late rates. The market is bare of feed and milling qualities, which are in good demand. Quotations : Prime malting, 3s to 4s per bushel ; medium malting and milling, 2a 6d to 3s; feed, 2s to 2s 5d per bushel (sacks extra).

Potatoes. — Growers have been keeping the market fully supplied with Derwent potatoes, which have only a moderate demand. Many oi them are being sent forward in tinripe condition, and other lots more or less aftected with blight. These are difficult to deal with even at reduced rates. Kidneys, Up-to-Uates, and other white sorts do not appear to be* affected. These kinds have been in short supply for some days, and at Monday's sale a distinct advance was recorded. Quotations : Good to best white sorts, £5 10s to £6 ss; sound Derwents, £4 10s to £5 ss ; others, £2 to £4 per ton (sacks in).

Chnff. — Local demand is almost entirely confined to prime, bright, heavy oaten sheaf. This class continues to find ready sale on arrival. Medium and- slightly discoloured chaff is offering more plentifully, and has not quite the same attention. Prime oaten sheaf is worth £3 7s 6d to £3 12s 6d; good oaten sheaf and new chaff, £3 to £3 ss; medium and discoloured, £2 10s to £2 15s per ton (sacks extra). Pressed Straw. — Best oaten, 40s ; wheat, 32s 6d per ton.
